Reflect Showerhead

by DIY-Maven

created at: 07/07/2010

I don't shave. My face, that is. So although I can't say for certain if the fog-less Reflect shower head is the best thing for the morning manscaping ritual since the twin blade, but it sure seems like it. According to the manufacturer's website, Reflect works thusly:… read more

Lego Star Wars Foosball Table

Lego Star Wars Foosball Table

Well folks, this is the last day of my visit to ManMade, and I thought we should end it the way we began it--with Star Wars. Seriously, how is it possible for someone not to have seen at least ONE of these movies? At least one of the first three, or last three...whatever....you know what I mean. 2x4, the flickr member who made this Lego Star Wars Foosball table would be equally flummoxed, to be sure.

Lego Star Wars Foosball Table

The players, made out of Legos, are mini-figures from Star Wars, and the table itself is play-able. The only thing that would make it cooler is if, when the Empire side scored it played The Imperial March (Vader's Theme). And when the Rebel … read more

Make a Steve Jobs Cheese Head

created at: 03/25/2010

Around these parts, if you call someone a cheesehead, it means you're identifying them as a Green Bay Packer fan. However, if you hear someone identify Steve Jobs as a cheesehead, it may mean because that person has spotted a head of cheese in the visage of Steve Jobs. Why would someone do this to an innocent block of cheese? I have no idea. Of course, If you really, really love your iPod, MacBook and iPhone, you wouldn't have to ask in the first place, and you're probably gonna wanna make one. Ken at the Cooks Den tells us how to pull off this cheesey work of art including 3 ways to serve Steve, including Apple Cheese Plate, Spicy Steve N… read more

How to: Crochet an RSS Feed X-Stitch Pillow

created at: 03/24/2010

Whip up an RSS Feed Pillow to show your love of technology and pillows! The colorful and cheeky design is my own, and I'm happy to share it with ManMade-ians everywhere. 'But, Maven', you might be saying, 'I don't know how to crochet!' Oh....poo. Crocheting is easy to learn. (My grandma taught me when I was 8!) Of course, if you don't have a crocheting granny, not to worry. Crafty Daisies has superior FREE crochet tutorials on their website. As for x-stitching, that's even easier. (Here's a quick illustration.) Other than that, all the information you need to make the pillow can be found at this post on my website, diymaven.com.

StarTrek TNG Fan Turns Apartment into Transporter Room

created at: 03/24/2010

StarTrek fan Tony Alleyne used his love of arts & crafts and science fiction to turn his 500 square foot apartment into a replica of the Enterprise's transporter room. Two years after he completed his StarTrek makeover, Tony started his own design company, 24th Century Design, hoping to help others bring their sci-fi fantasies to life. Reports suggest that Tony paid about 100K British pounds outfitting his pad with such things as voice-activated lighting. (I hope you have to say 'computer' first.) To see more images, follow this link. And to take a virtual of Tony's TNG creation, click here.

How to: Freeze-Clean Jeans

created at: 03/23/2010

Why would you want to subject a pair of innocent jeans to sub-zero temperatures? Because it's a water-free 'cleaning' technique that some fancy schmancy jeans might prefer over a spin in the Maytag. Here's what you'll need to give this cleaning technique a go:

  • a pair of dirty-feeling jeans
  • a large zippy bag
  • a freezer with room for the jeans

To see how to go about freeze-cleaning your jeans, follow this link to Re-nest. One thing the instructions leave out is the part about letting your jeans return to room temperature before you attempt to put them on. If you don't, you know....shrinkage.

Manly Stainless Steel Drinking Straws

Have you ever noticed that men and women use drinking straws differently? Women will use their straws to stir their drinks and then actually drink their beverages from the straw. Whereas men--not ALL men but a lot of them--will use their straws to stir their drinks and then they either remove the straws all together or--my favorite--bend them over the lips of their glasses so they don't poke them in the eyes.

These Stainless Steel Straws, however, will bring equality of straw usage to the sexes. First, they're so cool you won't want to remove them from your glass, and, second, they don't bend. Of course, because they are reusable, they'r… read more

Texturizing Text with Textorizer

created at: 03/19/2010

If you've never textured text, you don't know what you're missing. This is an eminently cool little on-line tool in which you insert an image (jpeg, png, gif, or xpm file less than 128K in length), tweak a few parameters and it gives you a texturized image. For the ManMade banner pictured above, I used strokes: 800, threshold: 100, width: 400, height: 300. Here's a close up, with some adjustments:

You can also textorize pictures with text with this handy tool, but it's a bit trickier. Here's an example:
