I'm an enormous fan of bent plywood furniture. The subtle curving shapes of the precedent-setting Eames chairs are amazing:

And while it's not impossible to do at home, it would take a lot of gear, time, and money. Individual layers are steamed and then laminated (glued on top of each other) over two-sided forms, forming curved plywood.

Ever now and again, Dominic Wilcox's clever War Bowls cross my path. I spied them online eight or so years ago, then two years later, one was on display at my local contemporary art museum, then I read an interview with Wilcox in a magazine, and on and on.

Scott took a walk in the woods near his home - a very famous woodland that happens to have been featured in films like The Princess Bride, Harry Potter, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - and came back with an armload of twigs. IKEA Hack: Beautiful Spherical, Wooden Wireless Speakers

Upon completing this project, Charles couldn't sleep...and for good reason. Birch salad bowls from IKEA house hacked wireless speakers to create amazing modern and moveable music blasters for outdoors or in.

"On Friday I had the idea. I was thinking about the christmas in July party and how it was such a pain to not only wire up the lights but also the speakers.  So, I went about searching for wireless speakers and I found these ones made by Rocketfish.  Suddenly the idea hit me.  I can’t remember where I first saw it, perhaps the MAKE blog, but on the internet I came across an image of this speaker sphere.  Somebody had taken two red salad bowls and installed numerous speakers around it.  I always thought it was a great idea for a party.  I decided it was time for me to do something similar… read more
