Microwaves are those things that you don't know you need unless you don't have it. When my last one stopped functioning, I figured "I'll save the counter space. I don't need to replace that."
But, I'm always in the habit of making a little bit more at dinner for lunch the next day. And, I spend whole weekends making five or six batches of soup to freeze to have around for cold winter days. And sooner, or later, I bought a new microwave.
