Between a very fine evening of charcoal grilling on Friday and a hardwood fire with friends on Sunday evening, my weekend was filled with the lovely smell of wood smoke, some very tasty food, and the need for a fresh pair of contact lenses. Totally worth it.
So, I'm intrigued by this wordless tutorial for creating a fire and high heat wood burner with a single log.
The trick is four simple cuts down the length of a chunk of tree trunk, and placing some kindling inside. I love how it has it's own built in "grill top," and there's no need for extra hardware.
Of course, you'll need a chainsaw to accomplsh the cuts, but I can't think of any better reason to get one than this.
