This week, the human interest news cycle is a-buzz with the announcement of a Samuel Adams Octoberfest Milkshake available this fall at burger chain Red Robin. Yes, it has beer in it.
But ManMakers, beer lovers, and all-around interesting people alike have known for years thatthe bitter, sweet, and complex malty flavors and aromas of beer are a perfect match for the rich creaminess of ice cream, and while I guess it's noteworthy that a megacompany like Red Robin are incorporating it into their seasonal menu, it's not terrifically ground breaking or mysterious. It's just tasty.
So, here are three of my favorite beery shake recipes, any of which could be adapted with a fall lager a drizzle of caramel sauce, and be just as fun to make at home.
2. Chef Harry Hawk shares his recipe for a Klondike Bar & Beer shake, which he recommends blending whole with a chicory stout or brown ale.
3. WinnieAB submitted her recipe for a Coffee and Lager shake to Food52, where she notes, "I am not a big fan of beer, but if it's blended into a milkshake, I'm an instant convert. This would be fantastic with homemade coffee ice cream, but in a pinch you can use any premium brand (such as Haagen Dazs "Five").
