DIY Idea: Turn a Vintage Camera into a Stylish Nightlight

If you regularly visit secondhand shops, flea markets, and thrift stores, you’ve run across hundreds of those little plastic Kodak cameras – the Brownie, the Starflex, or my favorite, the Ansco Cadet. While they look great on a shelf, and, once filled with weight, make great bookends, and can produce some really interesting results using the “Through-the-Viewfinder” approach with a DSLR, they’re also great fodder for making into other stuff… like a nightlight!

Flickr user Jayfish has embarked on creating a series of these clever hacks…it doesn’t look like he’ll be selling them, so that’s a great excuse to make your own!

Just grab a camera, clean out the guts – the shutter, the fim transport wheels, and use a saw or rotary tool to cut out the back to fit a store bought nightlight. They’re low watt enough that there should be no danger of melting the plastic or fire hazards.
