DIY Idea: Simple Scrap Wood and Bent Nail Bottle Opener
Pop quiz time! There are six types of simple machines that have been identified for the last four hundred years. How many can you name? Scroll down below this 1728 “table of simple mechanisms” for the answers…
Okay, ready? They are:
- Inclined plane
- Wheel and axle
- Pulley
- Lever
- Wedge
- Screw
How did you do? I got five…stupid wheel.
Okay, pop quiz number two: this awesome bent nail bottle opener by Areaware is what classification of simple machine? And more interestingly, pop quiz number three: do you think you could make one yourself?
Of course, you can! Just grab a piece of scrap wood, cut it to a comfortable shape, bend a nail in a vice or with locking pliers, and go.
Although, with the integrated magnets (one for the cap, one for the fridge) and the obviously level of craftsmanship, I think it’s easily worth the $10-20 to buy one from the manufacturers. Especially in walnut.
