Captivating Photos of a Family Living with a Lion in the 1970s
In the late 1960s, actress Tippi Hedren – perhaps best known for her starring role in Hitchcock’s The Birds – brought home a lion to live with her family. Which means this young woman lying in bed with a full-grown adult male lion is also a familiar face: Hedren’s daughter, actress Melanie Griffith.
Having visited Mozambique, Hedren fell in love with the creatures, and sought to make a feature length film – Roar. The project, as compelling as these photos might be, ended up a disaster.
Many members of the family and film crew ended up seriously injured, and the family was forced to move their home to better accomodate the project. At the end, the adventure ended up costing them at least $17.5 million dollars for a film that only gross two million.
